Are the cities of Red Deer (AB) and Fredericton (NB) CMAs for the purposes of the climate action incentive?

No, due to a recent change, the cities of Red Deer, Alberta, and Fredericton, New Brunswick, are now considered as not being part of a Census Metropolitan Area (CMA). The Canada Revenue Agency is applying the 2016 statistics for the tax year 2023, instead of the 2021 figures.

If you select one of these two cities for the keyword MetropolitanArea , DT Max erroneously considers them as being part of a CMA, and will not tick the resided outside of the census metropolitan areas (CMA) box(es) on page 2 of your client's federal tax return.

As a workaround, choose the option Outside of a Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) for the keyword MetropolitanArea .

If the return was already filed for your client, you can ReFILE it using the above-mentioned workaround or a version subsequent to 27.11.

Note: The city of Red Deer (AB) was still considered part of a CMA in 2022 but was no longer in 2023.
